Chekhov, with an insightful portrait of a society in transition, blends elements of farce, tragedy, and romance to tell the tale of the impending auction of an old family estate. The Cherry Orchard is a comedic look at how a once-rich, aristocratic family copes with losing their home and their beloved cherry orchard, while ingnoring the rising social order which will replace their own.
